Pheelya's March Update

WOW! My March list is complete - All 5 items!! I'm so excited!!

First up is SotSii Clue 3 completed! I do not recommend working with cobweb weight lace for your first ever lace project. Trust me on that! I can't tell you how many times I started over or frogged rows and tinked back stitch after stitch. And learn the value of life lines in lace! You can see that I have two still in mine currently.

SOTSii

Next up is the Stained Glass Afghan that will probably be a year long project. The blanket requires 357 squares. I am hoping to have the squares completed by November so that I can put them all together in December.

Pheelya's March List

I know we are in the middle of March and I am just now getting around to posting my list! I have been dealing with work issues and health issues that have left me drained by the middle of the day that when I get home from work I'm just literally drained and I haven't had much energy to blog. But I'm back!

Here are my March goals:

1. Fetching - Christmas gift - friend - March 15
2. SotSii clue 3 - Christmas - maybe Mom - March 30th
3. 30 squares for Stained Glass afghan - Christmas - not sure for who - March 30

I'm keeping it light because I have a lot going on in my life right now and don't want to overload myself :)

Waves Shawl finally finished!!!

Finally!! This scarf/shawl was started back in December and was put on hold because the pattern called for 6 skeins of yarn, but after checking around on Ravelry 6 skeins wasn't nearly enough!! I ordered more yarn and ended up using 10 skeins!! Then I had to frog back 20 some odd rows because I miscrossed a cable! But it's finally finished and I couldn't be happier if I didn't have to knit 2x2 ribbing for quite a while! *grin* I love the final results, but I don't think I'll be fooling around with 24 stitch cables anytime soon :)

Wave Scarf
Pattern: Waves Scarf
Yarn: Cadena from Knit Picks
Needles: Knit Picks Options size 9
Notes: pattern calls for 6 skeins, but I ended up using 10! Check around on Ravelry before making for yourself to make sure you get enough yarn.

Pheelya's February Goals

One month down and keeping up nicely! I over estimated my ability and time by putting so many large projects on my January list. The two items that still remain from my January list will obviously be moved into February. Both of those projects are over 70% done, so that's good. I decided that February will be a month of small projects considering I still have these two big projects and my first lace project on needles (Secret of the Stole ii). Silly me bought cobweb lace for my first lace project. The poor woman at the LYS where I bought the yarn tried her best to deter me from buy cobweb lace for my first project, but I just fell in lust with the berry-red colored yarn that I closed myself off to any sensible advice and bought it. Payment for my stubborness?? ... I have frogged and cast-on 4 times already!! *sigh* I'm taking it much slower this time and counting and recounting my stitiches every other row, and I have learned all about "lifelines" with lace knitting. I WILL be adding these into my lace knitting practice!

This first lace project has been so frustrating and yet I am determine to knit lace, so crazy determined that I joined two other lace KALs! (Dem Fischer sin Fru & Mystic Light Mystery Shawl) Color me crazy!

FO #2 for this month

Not something that was on my oroginal January list, but I had such big projects that I needed something quick to make me feel good about completeing gifts! *laugh* This will be mailed to the baby that will also be the lucky recipient of that beautiful baby blanket that took me FOREVER to finish!

baby hat

Pattern: Lace Baby Beenie

Yarn: Jo-Ann Sensations Tesoro, 1 skein Pink

Needles: Lantern Moon, Ebony DPN size 5

Notes: quick and easy!! This yarn blocked beautifully!

Thank you for all the wonderful comments on the baby blanket.

Finished!!!!

I was deteremined to finish this blanket, so I was up till 2AM seaming all the edgings on. I re-wet blocked it to flatten out the seams. I have to say, I have done other seaming projects but they were either crocheted together or whip stitched. This was the first time I've done the mattress stitch. I started at about 10PM thinking it would only take me about an hour or so to complete.... 4 hours later! But it's done!!

Madelyn's blanket

Pattern: Lace Christening Blanket from Vogue Knitting Baby Blankets

Yarn: KnitPicks Shine Sport, 12 skeins of Silver Sage

Needles: KnitPicks Options size 5

Notes: The pattern actually called for each panel to be knit seperately, but I didn't want to do all that seaming, so I cast on all seven panels together and used stitch markers to mark each panel.

Ugh! When patterns are wrong!

I am so mad right now! I had planned to have the Wave Scarf done for January 6th for my sister as a La Befana gift. Unfortuntely that did not happen. Why you ask.... well that's a very good question! I don't have enough yarn!!

I pattern called for 6 hanks of Cadena yarn. BULL-JINKIES!!

I was on skein 3 last Friday and trucking along nicely. The pattern is nice and fairly easy. A 24 stitch cable is a little challenging, but you get the hang of it and it's every 12th row, so not too bad. But like I said, I was on 3rd skein and barely had 20" on the scarf!! The scarf is suppose to be 71" long!

PANIC!!!

I rush over to my computer *stepping on the poor cat's tail - who insists on getting in the way everytime I walk somewhere in my house* boot up my computer and start searching Ravelry. What do I find?? NO ONE who used the recommended yarn make that scarf with the required number of skeins. Others used between 8 to 10 skeins. *sigh*

I went over the Knit Picks and ordered 4 more skeins and I'm praying that the skein colors will match - or that they'll be close enough not to notice. So, this project is on hold till the new yarn comes in.

What have I learned.... check Ravelry before starting any more projects!
