Finally, a may FO

I've been MIA for a really, really long time (nearly two months?) due to many things (school, lost camera charger, etc) but I have another present finished!

1. Recipient is my sister, Elizabeth.
2. The sweater is for her birthday in October. She'll be starting at College in the fall.

I made several mods, including:

1. Omitting the bobbles, as many people have already done.
2. Longer ribbing on both the body and sleeves
3. less, but larger buttons. 5 instead of 10.
   

I think it's really lovely. I loved the pattern, the heathered yarn,and especially the buttons. I think she is really going to like it!

3rd February FO!

I just finished the third FO on my February list. It's a chemo turban for a close friend of mine who will be having a Bone Marrow Transplant next month, and I am very glad to have gotten it done!

• The pattern is from Elann.com, found here.
• It was a quick, fun knit. I thought it would be a huge pain, because you cast on 50 and then work in 4X4 ribbing for 40 inches but it actually went quite quickly.
• I used two balls of Esprit, the yarn it called for. I think any cotton/nylon blend (or yarn that has substantial stretch to it) would work. I'm thinking Cascade Fixation would be great too.
  
• I made no mods to this one, but I have enough yarn for another one, and I'd like stripes. I'll probably have to make some mods, so we'll see how that goes.
  
• I wasn't too inspired by this project. I am really satisfied with the finished product, but I feel pretty blah about the whole thing. I think the recipient will really appreciate it though, and that is definitely what counts.

I also have another project to add to my February list. I am working on some charity items for a domestic women's shelter in Brixton, London,and I hope to have them done by the end of the week. So, I'm adding that as one of my February goals. Sadly, I have not touched my 4th item, which was my dad's sweater. I just can't even look at the thing. Luckily, it's not due until Christmas, and I'm a pretty fast knitter. I want to get all my fun, small projects done first, and then tackle the sweater!

Second February FO

Hey everyone! I hope you're all having a good, and productive, week.

May I introduce my latest FO, a Japanese Feather and Fan shawl.

For: My Grandmother

When: Christmas '08! It feels amazing to have this great of a present done already.

Some specs:

Pattern: Japanese Feather and Fan shawl, found as a free pattern on Ravelry. I really loved this pattern, and am so glad I found it. It was fairly easy to follow (just the charts, but I've done quite a bit of lace before, so it was no problem) and the end product is so lovely. Blocking it out, as usual, was so much fun.

Yarn: 2.5 skeins of Knitpicks Palette that I had leftover in my stash. I found myself sitting at the computer one night with a ball of sock yarn, going "what am I going to do with this?" Well, this is what I did.

Needles: US size 3 (3.25mm) circulars.

Mods: I cast off using a crochet bind off, in a contrasting color of Knitpicks Palette. I barely had enough yarn to finish (but i was stashbusting, so it worked out quite well), and didn't have enough to cast off! I like the contrasting color though, it adds a bit of a shock, in a good way.



This took me about 4 days from start to finish, but I worked on it like a madwoman. Each row took such a long time, that on the purl rows I would read for school, and on the knit rows I would just listen to music. Alternating between about 10 minutes of purling/reading and knitting/relaxing made the time go by very quickly. It was quite enjoyable!

All in all, I am quite pleased with this project. And I can't even begin to describe how excited I am to be done with a Christmas present already!
