End of Feb report

Well it was a very sad February for me. I did not get one thing done. I started a pair of mittens only got one done. I started the other sleeve of my moms sweater only got 7 rows done. I started a blanket for charity only got a very very small part done. I felt like I just did not have time to ever sit and knit. Sad very sad. So for my report I have nothing to share this month.

Hope everyone else's month was much better. Now to let that go and to work harder in March.

Feb Check In

Well so far not so hot on the knitting side of things. I have not gotten anything done. I have worked on my moms sweater 1 sleeve done the other started. I have not even gotten my sons yarn for his sweater. 0 count on the washcloths and I have started and frogged the sock oh about 5 times this month. So lets just say this is not looking like a great knitting month for me. Hope to get something done this weekend so it is not a total waste.

Way to go everyone for all your great work. I have seen some really wonderful looking stuff on this blog KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!!!

Feb FO

Baby Raglans for S&S
Finally completed the pair of Baby Raglans (Debbie Bliss) made with Cashmerino Aran. The pattern was one color, but I wanted to make it a bit more 'sporty' since new daddy is an athelete. First one came home yesterday and his brother should be home in a week... but will probably be a bit longer before they can wear these!

arghhhh.... I'm falling behind!

february is really getting away from me already!

the two bags I am working on are giving me the irrates... so I have put them aside for the moment

the socks are also annoying me... so they are in the time out corner

I had five teddies to finish... two are done, with three more to go

2008_0206megted0020 teddy2 (close up)

I removed the advent socks from this month's list... as I don't need them until christmas!

also I had to add in a swap item, which I had forgotten about...

Second February FO

Hey everyone! I hope you're all having a good, and productive, week.

May I introduce my latest FO, a Japanese Feather and Fan shawl.

For: My Grandmother

When: Christmas '08! It feels amazing to have this great of a present done already.

Some specs:

Pattern: Japanese Feather and Fan shawl, found as a free pattern on Ravelry. I really loved this pattern, and am so glad I found it. It was fairly easy to follow (just the charts, but I've done quite a bit of lace before, so it was no problem) and the end product is so lovely. Blocking it out, as usual, was so much fun.

Yarn: 2.5 skeins of Knitpicks Palette that I had leftover in my stash. I found myself sitting at the computer one night with a ball of sock yarn, going "what am I going to do with this?" Well, this is what I did.

Needles: US size 3 (3.25mm) circulars.

Mods: I cast off using a crochet bind off, in a contrasting color of Knitpicks Palette. I barely had enough yarn to finish (but i was stashbusting, so it worked out quite well), and didn't have enough to cast off! I like the contrasting color though, it adds a bit of a shock, in a good way.

This took me about 4 days from start to finish, but I worked on it like a madwoman. Each row took such a long time, that on the purl rows I would read for school, and on the knit rows I would just listen to music. Alternating between about 10 minutes of purling/reading and knitting/relaxing made the time go by very quickly. It was quite enjoyable!

All in all, I am quite pleased with this project. And I can't even begin to describe how excited I am to be done with a Christmas present already!

First FO of February!

Nice alliteration there, huh?

Here is my first February FO, a tam for my sister's birthday (10/08 so I have finished with months to spare!)

I hope she likes it. She's a lot trendier than I am, so I'm not sure how she'll feel about this. I'm just crossing my fingers, because I think it turned out quite lovely.

Details:
  • The pattern is my own, sort of designed as I went along. I had a lot of fun doing it!
  • It is a combination of a few stitch patterns. The brim has a folded picot edge, and the body of the hat consists of a zigzag stitch, brioche rib, and stockinette.
  • I knit it completely on size 5 DPNs and 24" circulars (my Denise interchangeables)
  • It took about about 3 days to complete, but only because I kept having to rip back. Once I got going, it flew off the needles.
  • I finished it February 1st. I sewed on the flower, and wore it to the park!
I am so excited to already be able to check a gift off my list! It feels great.

More details can be found on my blog, and on Ravelry (including the pattern as a free PDF download).

Catherine's February Gift List

Well, first off, hello everyone here. I love this idea. I just got my invitation yesterday, so this will be my first post.

January is coming to a close in just a few hours, so while I am hoping to finish a hat for my sister today, I am not going to have a January list!

My February Gift list:

1. self-designed beret for Madeleine - for her birthday on October 8th.

2. Drops Sweater for Dad - Christmas? This one will take a while! I actually knit the whole body and half a sleeve for last Christmas, only to realize it was incredibly huge. I've made huge adjustments to the pattern, and am jumping back on the yarny horse. I figure if I've got 11 months, I'll be able to handle it.

3. Japanese Feather and Fan shawl (Ravelry link) for Granne, again for Christmas. I'll probably modify the pattern to be a bit smaller. Again, this will probably be in the queue for a while!

4. Chemo caps for Sarah - to be finished by the middle of March.

Jan FOs done & Feb list

Hi all... well it's not the best sewing I've done, but not the worst either. Clearly I need to get used to my sewing machine again. But here is my last gift from my Jan list, a flannel baby blanket which is a fun 'block' pattern in girly colors backed with pink.

Here's my completed Jan list:

Syncopation bag for tbd - Jan 31 => DONE
Felted clogs for mom - Jan 31= DONE
Rib scarf for Lisa - Feb 2 => DONE
Baby Raglan for B.E. - Jan 16 => DONE
Baby blanket for baby girl (sewing) => DONE (was going to make burp cloths, too, but ran out of pink fabric so just the blanket for this one)

And my Feb list:
Golf themed burp cloths/S&S twins/Feb 7
2 baby sweaters/S&S twins/Feb 7
Zen Garden Clapotis/tbd/March 2
tbd/swap pal/Feb 29

Q1 Challenge:
cowl or scarf/mom/Christmas
Blue Syncopation Bag/tbd/Christmas
Happy Knitting!
