Need advice on my Q2 Challenge project

I'm deciding what yarn and needle size to use for my Q2 project, and I'm looking for input. I have a little poll at my blog. I would appreciate anyone who wants to vote and/or weigh in.

Thanks!

2nd Quarter Challeng Update

I am making a crocheted afghan for my sister-in-law for Christmas 2008. I am finished with 3 strips of 6 squares and will be doing one more strip. Once finished they will be joined and bordered with black yarn.

I have made progress on my cape, which is a bd present for my pal. Sorry no pics. My poncho is at a stand still. I seem to have lost interest!

I am going to start preparing for a holiday craft fair in Oct that my guild is participating in. I am really looking forward to that!

I will keep you posted!

WIP: Yellow Hat

Cross posted at Sally Comes Unraveled and Year Long Gift-A-Long.

Maybe it's crazy to start my January project for the Year Long Gift-A-Long on January 30, but I think I'm going to make it.

As I said before, these two yarns were dying to go together. I double stranded the Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Astrakhan for the edging by using both ends of the ball at the same time. I'm not real fond of knitting with the Astrakhan. I can't quite put my finger on the reason why. It doesn't really split or tangle. It just doesn't feel good on the needles. But I like the way it looks. And as always, Cashmerino Superchunky is awesome.
Tonight at Bluebonnet Yarn Shoppe, Katie said it looked like a Winnie the Pooh hat. Then she said "your hat looks like Pooh" before she realized what she was saying. She said I should add little Pooh Bear ears. I think I'll have a plenty leftover to make a baby hat with ears, but for now, I'll stick with the basics.

My only concern is the size. I swatched a little bit, but I wasn't very careful about measuring. I just estimated and cast on. I hope it's not too big. It seemed ok on the Styrofoam head at Bluebonnet.

In other news, I just talked to Jules. It's cold in LA and he is wearing his socks right now.

So, here it is, the Steelers blanket that is taking FOR-EV-ER. Since I took the picture I've done a few more rows, and started the Steelers logo color work in the center. Three stitches of it, anyway. So, back to work!

Finally, my first post!

Ok, here I am finally to share my knit list for January. I don't list recipients 'cause I rarely know who something is for. I just like knitting stuff.. and this knit along will help me knit more stuff. (and I'll have some nice gifts to give away :D)

1. Odessa by Grumperina - done!
2. Fingerless mitts (my generic pattern)- 50% done
3. Periwinkle Beret - by Grumperina (not sure I'll finish this in January, but I'm hoping)

That's it!

Thanks, Marce, for this!!!!

A Late Start, But Still a Start ...

Yes, I realize that January is nearly over, and I am just now thinking seriously about my list, so I can post it here. I only joined up last week, and since then there have been a few adjustments. So for January, I have just one item listed:

1. Washington Redskins fan socks / my niece's husband / Christmas gift / January 31.

My plan is to knit a pair of socks for all of my nieces, nephews, and their respective spouses for Christmas gifts next year. For my nieces' husbands, who are all football fans, I decided to make socks in the colors of their favorite football teams. Since I have the yarn in my stash already for Redskins-color socks, those are first on the list ...

Of course, I still have to dig out the yarn from wherever it is, which is why I am signing off - right now!

Hello!

Hi everyone, Cindy here! I'm glad to be joining this Gift-A-Long...thanks to Marce for organizing this! A little bit about me: I live in NYC, work as a research coordinator, and am working towards my career goal of becoming a physician assistant. I'm also the dyer behind Cherry Blossom Fibers. I loooove to craft, and am always looking for new things to try. I've been knitting for about 2 years. With all my crafts, I have a little bit of A.D.D. mixed with just wanting to try too many projects, so hopefully you all can help keep me motivated to stick to my knitting/gift goals!

Here is my January Gift List (starting off short and realistic):

  • Noro Scarf/not sure yet/not sure yet/January 31

  • Anthropologie-inspired Capelet/Joy/Joy's Birthday/February 23

And here is my progress so far on the Noro Scarf:

Happy Knitting!

WIP

Hello everyone, Dreamsherl here. I'm happy to be a part of the year long gift a long. I have a few items that I have to complete before January ends. I have a shower gift that I'm send to a cousin in Augusta GA. The gift is a hat and sweater set. The hat is complete and the sweater is almost complete. The sweater body is complete (it is knit in one piece) and I'm now starting the arms and have to do the corrugated ribbing around the neck edge and front plakets. I'm also making a shrug for my six year old cousin so that she won't feel left out of all of the fun. The baby is due January 21st.

The sweater is being made with Plymouth Encore.

The shrug is being made with Plymouth Yarn's Italian Collection Athena.
