finishing up January, starting up February

So here is my final FO for January - a new hat for my husband. His basic concern is that the hat be warm enough and I believe that this one will be. It is made from the Kim's Basic Hats pattern in Last Minute Knited Gifts. . . and so on to February:

My February list includes 2 rolled over items:
1. Branching Out Scarf/for M/belated birthday present/February 20
2. Guitar Strap/for I/ left over Chanukah present/February 15
3. Strip for Obama Afghan/for the USA/for Ravelry fundraiser/February 20
4. Evening Bag/for ???/holiday present (my first 1Q challenge project)/February 29

I am beginning to think of ideas for March and beyond, but trying to keep my lists manageable, to stick with the stress free theme.

My List...Finally!

I signed up towards the beginning of January and even introduced myself but I have yet to post my list. I just realized that this morning as I was doing some computer work. Seeing that it is almost the end of the month I guess I better post that list. So here it goes:

Sister - Calorimetry - for Christmas 2008
2 Nieces - Calorimetry but I have to size it for their heads...YIKES! - for Christmas 2008
Mom - Shawl for Mother's Day

I know there is more but I just can't think of any right now. I had a small crisis while writing this so my thinking isn't going well right now.

Introduction, Jan. List, Q1 Challenge

I just joined, sounds like a fantastic a-long to be a part of! I've already had a great time looking at the FOs and gift ideas added so far! I'm a military spouse stationed overseas. The past three years, we haven't been home for Christmas, but this year, we will be...and that means no excuses for not giving any handmade gifts!

Since it's so late in January already, and since I have so many "gifts" for myself on the needles or on their way to the needles, I'm going to put just one item on my January gift-list:

1. Ooh La Loopy Hat (Interweave Holiday 06)/lil' cousin/Christmas/December 1

I'd also like to be counted in for the Quarterly Challenge.

Rebecca

Gift List

1. Fleece Artist Mittens - Sister, just because, Feb29, 2008
2. Babette - Sister, Christmas 2008
3. Monster - Bronson, Just because, Feb 5, 2008
4. Charade Socks -Lorraine, Mothers Day, May, 2008
5. Mermaid Socks - Mom, Mothers Day, May 2008

giorgi's january list

I'm starting late and I'd like to get at least one project done by the end of the month, so I'll make it a washcloth for the gift chest... recipient as yet unknown.

This *gal* is a great idea. I would not have begun to think about holiday gifting for months otherwise. I'll give some careful thought to February and the rest of the year and make a list.

LeAnn's Gift List

I just received my invitation to join this today. Even though January is almost over, here's my list:

1. Calorimetry / sister-in-law / Birthday / January 31
2. Nakiska / sister-in-law / Birthday / January 31
3. French Market Bag / co-worker / Birthday / May 31
4. Hazy Paves Scarf / mom / Christmas / December 15
5. Felted Clogs / Dad / Christmas / December 15

I finished the Calorimetry this morning, but I haven't marked this as an official FO. I may rip it back and make it a little narrower -- looked awfully wide when I tried it on.

I'll be casting on Nakiska tonight.

This KAL is such a great idea.

update and another FO

This GAL has been great for providing the inspiration and focus to get my projects organized and me working steadily to complete them. Here is an update on my January list:

1. Wonderful Wallaby for J - done
2. Hat for M - done

3. E's hat - this is the Odessa that I just finished. I thought that it was an easy but gratifying knit and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to make a hat.

4. M's scarf - January 31 - moving to February 15
I am making Branching Out from Knitty. It's taking me longer to feel comfortable with the pattern so I think I want to give it more time. Instead I will substitute
5. Hat for DH - moved from February 15 to January 31. I have just cast it on, so this will be my main WIP for now.
6. Crocheted guitar strap (which is progressing, but slowly) - still February 15.
After I finish the next hat, I will post February's list which will have my first 1Q challenge project in it.

So many ideas, so much fun!

Nice to join you!

Hi Everyone,

My name is Jennifer (jsins on the sidebar) and I am excited to join you all. Signing up for the GAL got me to knit my first gift project of the year this weekend! I am looking forward to having a fun and stress-free gift knitting experience with you all.

I'll start with my January goals. Since it's a bit late in the month to be too ambitious, I'm going to keep them simple. My goals are to complete 3 gifts this month.

1. Pair of Saartje's Booties for Co-Worker (baby due in May) completed January 20

2. A dishcloth as a housewarming present for a friend

3. A dishcloth for a Christmas present

I was able to knit the pair of Saartje's Booties yesterday and am pleased to unveil them in my first post to the Gift-A-Long.

Pattern: Saartje's Booties by Saartje de Bruijn

Yarn: Joan of Arc by Yarn Love in the Fling colorway

Needles: U.S. size 2 Addi Turbos

Start/Finish Date: January 20, 2008

More project details can be found on my blog.

New to group

Hello everyone!

I'm new to the group but I'm very excited to have a plan of attack for this coming years gift knitting. To start things off I wanted to post my list. It's short for now, but I'll add more ideas as I get them.

1. The Ultimate Gift sweater / My brother / Xmas 2008 / Dec. 2008
2. Felted hat (I think it'll be this one from Chicknits) / My Mom / Xmas 2008 / Dec. 2008

These will be February's gifts, too since January is almost over with. Thanks for the great group!

one FO, one WIP, and challenge accepted

Here is my Wallaby for my son finished right on schedule. This was the first time that I ever did the Kitchener stitch and it took a few tries to get it right, but at long last I did! It was a fun knit and I think that I may try to make them for my other sons later on.

This is my second hat for the month for my friend's birthday which is this Sunday. I am doing a two color Odessa which I am enjoying and so far so good.

I have decided to accept the challenge because I felt that there were a number of people I might have made gifts for during the holidays, but I ran out of time. I am going to use the "gift basket" idea and make a few things and then as the holidays get closer I will decide who gets what. I am thinking of some headbands or maybe a bag. These projects will be on my February list.

It is so much fun to see everyone's projects! Thanks Marce for getting this organized.

Better late than never?

Hi! I just realized that I totally forgot to post my January list!!! I know there are only two weeks left in the month, but I want to get the motivation going by posting something. So, here it is:

1) Tudora/a friend/Holiday giftJan 31
2) Calorimetry/Erin/Valentines Day/Jan 31
3) Complete Extended CAL as far as I have the clues/a friend/Valentines Day/Jan 31
4) Baby afghan/a friend/not sure/Jan 31
5) Dishcloth/my mother/Valentine's Day/Jan 31

These are all knitted items except the Extended CAL. I think that one is going to be an afghan, but not positive yet.

I realize that we are supposed to put names with the items we make, but I have a bit of a problem with that. Lots of folks I knit for are likely to be reading this and I don't want them to get their hopes up if they see their name, or one like it. Also, I have a bad track record with "making something for someone". If I have a specific person in mind for an item I just don't get it done. Don't ask me why, it just happens. However if I just make something, by the time I'm finished I know who it's going to be for. Go figure!

Oh, and anytime I say "Holiday gift", it means that whole Channukah, Christmas, Yule, Kwanza, etc, etc, season. I have friends who celebrate different ones and some who celebrate more than one of them. So I just lump them all together in my planning stage. Makes things much easier for me!

And as I complete items, I'll be replacing them with new ones. I like the idea of keeping to a list of 5 items at a time!

One More Headband...FO

I completely forgot that I was going to do two of the headbands so I knitted this one up right quick. I only have my Isabeau Purse to finish and my January list is complete. I so love this Year Long Gift-A-Long!

BrownBerry's January FO's

I'm jumping into the finisher's pile :)

I finished all 3 of the baby hats on my list, and since the wee models haven't arrived yet, I consider this an "on time" finish :)

Photos of the first 2 are shown here and I'll edit to add the 3rd a little later.

Baby Brown Hats Finished

For one of the items remaining, the baby bolero, I may consider switching this out for a simple newborn cardigan since I haven't seen the best reviews on the bolero from the OneSkein book. So to summarize...

1 - Newborn Hat / Tina's Baby / Baby Gift / Jan 15 - FO
2 - Newborn Hat / Raoul Jr / Baby Gift / Jan 25 - FO
3 - Newborn Sweater/ Raoul Jr / Baby Gift / Jan 25 - Pending new pattern...
4 - Nomad Hat & Scarf / Opal / Just Because / Feb 15
5 - Newborn Hat / Sandy's Baby / Baby Gift / Feb 28 - FO

CanadianKiwi's Goals for 2008

My goals for 2008 are rather daunting, but with encouragement I can do it.
I just have to break it down into manageable chunks!

This is what I could like to accomplish:

*Learn to crochet - I can do the basic stitches but cannot read a pattern. I always seem to have less stitches at the end of the row that I need & the items edge is on an angle.
*2 Charity items per month

Celtic Beanie - Feb 14
Slippers - Feb

April
Om Yoga Mat Bag - DD #2's friend SS - birthday

Pinwheel Purse - DD#2 - Easter

May

Sweater for niece (Birthday IOU - by mid Feb)
Sweater for SIL (Xmas IOU - by end of March)

Hmmm, that's it for now but more will occur to me as time rolls on...
