Carrie's March Progress

Here's a recap of my list for March:
  • Shedir hat / SIL #2 / Christmas / December
  • Fetchings / friend's mom / Christmas / December
  • Baby hat / baby / baby due date / April 18th
  • Golf club cover / Mom / birthday / mid-March (for mailing)
I can't believe it, but everything is finished!! That's a first :) I only have pics of the first two though. Here's Shedir (my first Q1 Challenge submission!):

And here's the Fetchings (second Q1 submission):

Both of these were knit to spec with the suggested yarns, another first! Loved both projects. Hope the recipients do as well! I LOVE having something done for December in MARCH!

The baby hat also turned out fabulously; and I've even started the baby sweater. The golf club covers are up for debate. It's clear that 1) I don't do duplicate stitch very well, and 2) I have no idea what shape a golf club is. Hopefully my mom will give me some feedback so I can make some more and add changes if necessary :)

Next to ponder is the April list! I'm expecting a little one so the list will be short. Very, very short.

FO: Skinny Eve Scarf

Cross posted at Sally Comes Unraveled and Year Long Gift-A-Long.

Here is Poncho Pig making his modeling debut. Just imagine if I made a scarf that actually fit him.

As I mentioned earlier I left my knitting bag with most of my current knitting projects at my parent's house last week. So I had no choice to cast on something new. Fortunately, I had something on my list of Christmas gifts to make.

I bought some Plymouth Baby Alpaca Grande Paint at Hill Country Weavers last fall. I probably could have made this scarf a little wider, but I wanted length over width. It only took me a little more than one and a half skeins in colorway 8817. I also used the wooden US size 8 knitting needles I got in my Knitters Scavenger Hunt package.

This is the same ribbing I used in this scarf and this scarf. I'm not sure if it's technically the Brioche Rib or the Eve's Rib. (Hence the name.) I used the stitch I found in this pattern. It's a great stitch, and I love how it looks with the hand painted yarn. I also like the way it pooled diagonally.

Don't Hate on the Fun Fur

I'm including a bonus WIP, a simple fun fur scarf out of Lion Brand Fun Fur Stripes. The yarn was provided from a friend from church, who asked me to some scarves out of it.

these weren't actually on my march list,

but I have made two more one hour scarves, which will be added to my christmas gift box

Fetchings Finished!!

I was only suppose to make one pair, but the first pair went to quickly that I found myself casting on for the 2nd pair without even knowing it! The red ones are a Christmas gift, but the purple/silver ones are for me.

Q1 Challenge - done

I finished my Q1 projects (yeah! I wasn't sure I'd make it). But I'm really not happy with the beret. I'm hoping I only hate it because it looks awful on me. Luckily I had planned to give it to one of those fantastic friends who loved knitted gifts (and isn't a knitter) and who would wear a one sleeved sweater with pride, if you made it for her. Still, I may rip it and start over.

The Chevron Scarf and Beret go together - although the purples aren't quite as close as I thought they would be. The other scarf is going out into the world on it's own.

Chevron Scarf - I skein each of a purple koigu and an olive koigu. 52" long

Le Slouch - by Knit and Tonic. 1.2 skeins Kathmandu Aran Tweed. The colour is closer in the pics on my blog.

Diagonal Lace Scarf - 1 Skein Malabrigo in "Vaa". This scarf knits up fast and looks great. After blocking it's about 58"

Another one down

I finally finished the ribbed socks! These will be for mom for christmas, and are my second Q1 Challenge FO.

First Quarter Challenge

I finally got my act together and finished one of the two Christmas items I want to do by the end of the quarter. I decided to do lap blankets for my UBS ladies - one down, six more to go!! I've got the next one on the hook and that will be done by the end of the month

Yet another baby sweater.

I have completed yet another baby sweater as a gift for the MANY friends who are expecting or who have just had babies. This was fun to knit b/c I enjoy doing seed stitch. I altered the pattern to omit the hood and use a collar.

Quick knit gift

I did this sweater today (and still managed to do housework and play with my one year old). It is double stranded and done in Simply Soft, so it is economical too. I altered the pattern alittle to work the sleeves in the round. I plan to knit this again and do alittle more altering.

February progress so far

It's been so great to be knitting again after my January injury, I have gone a little crazy.   I added the Koolhaas hat after finding some wonderful Malabrigo at a LYS, but not sure the photo can do justice to the subtle variations and richness of the brown colors.
I decided to wait to felt the clogs until I know who will be getting them.  But since I'm so curious to see how the embroidery felts, I may throw them in the wash today!

Calorimetry was great fun to knit - a great design.
I knit Skip while watching basketball over the weekend.

February is half-gone... an Update

This month has been fantastic for stashburning and filling the gift pile. Here's my update so far:

1. Baby socks/ for mystery baby/ FO
2. Green Frivol Hat/ Xmas '08 pile/ FO
3. EZ's BSJ with stash Lamb's Pride random superwash remnants/ for one of the babies/ FO
4. (added) EZ's BSJ, shortened to Bolero length/ for the other baby/ FO
5. Simple ankle socks from stashed Regia sock yarn/ a co-worker, Xmas '08/ Feb. 28th

As you can see, I have several pairs of friends who are having their first child later this year, one in Brevard, NC and one in New Zealand. My friends in Nova Scotia are trying to conceive their second child, so I figured three baby gifts this month would be a safe bet.

I'm also making my 2nd pair of Anemoi mittens, but these are for me. Also, I've been commissioned by a student's mother to knit her a hat, which I'm doing with a stashed blue skein of Lamb's Pride. Yup, my yarn diet continues... all the projects in this post have been done with stashed yarn! Hooray!

First FO from February list

I am almost done with 3 of projects from my February list but close only counts in horseshoes and hanggernades....

Here is the first FO....
This cutie is for my big sis for Christmas. I also plan on knitting her the Snoopy. :o)
Hopefully I will post my other items in the next couple weeks.

One Feb. Gift Down

Gift for Godson, Gift due: Christmas
I managed to be very productive and do these toddler mittens and hat in less than 2 days (the Patons and speed did hurt my fingers a bit, they want some yummy alpaca now). I used Patons double stranded for extra warmth (which made it cushy). I have alittle bite left over so I may make a felted something for someone. Next "to knit" gift list to do right now are some dishclothes (I just got the Mason Dixon book) and some adult cabled hats in Eco Wool for family up North. Oh yes add the embelishments to the felted clutch and knit up some lush felted clogs.

FO: Yellow Hat

Cross posted at Sally Comes Unraveled and Year Long Gift-A-Long.

Well, at least it fits my big fat head.

You've got to love a hat that can be finished in 24 hours. (Well, technically it was more like 30 hours.) I'm a little worried that it's too big. It was hard to tell on the needles. Now that it's off the needles, I'm also worried about it being too short. The thing is that I didn't want the brim to be flipped up, sort of like a beanie.

Technically, this may not be a Christmas gift. It may end up being sold at a craft show, on Etsy or at the next Fiber Friends Festival. Either way, I think it qualifies for the Year Long Gift-A-Long's quarterly challenge, because it still isn't due until December. If all else fails, it fits me. (And big heads run on both sides of my family.)

I used Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Astrakhan in 31007 and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky in 16016 and US Size 10 bamboo dpns. It took slightly less than one skein of Superchunky and only about one half of a skein of Astrakhan.

I improvised the design, roughly estimating circumference. I double stranded the Astrakhan and did seed stitch on the first round to prevent it from flipping up. (I think it worked.) The rest is in stockinette. The decreases were also done without much planning. I thought I cast on 68 stitches, but as I decreased the numbers didn't add up. I don't think it matters though.

Hooray for big fat yarn, big fat needles and big fat heads.

January Update / February Goals

I've finished all of my January items for this month. I've completed the Baby Shower Gift as of today, but I changed some of the items. I couldn't find a baby bootie pattern that I liked, so I nixed those, and I don't feel like knitting a bib, so the set is just the hat, cardi, and a wash cloth.

Here are the hat & cardi, complete w/ buttons!
Baby Set (Hat & Cardi)

I also finished an item for the Q1 Challenge... the Rowan Tapestry Scarf. It's probably going to be a Christmas present for a co-worker or somebody.
FO: One Skein Rowan Tapestry Scarf

I updated the list, and now I only have one goal for January. To finish a pair of socks for myself. They were my traveling socks during Thanksgiving, and I had to set them down in favor of Christmas Knitting & then Gift Knitting. My gift to myself in February is to finish them! If I finish them, my next goal is to finish Callie (not currently listed) for myself as she was also set down in favor of Christmas Knitting.

I'm also making some very nice progress on Dina's Socks & I hope to have them done soon. I've been in an easy stockinette-in-the-round frame of mind, and I'm so happy that I'm knitting them 2 at a time. lol. :)

1st FO of the year and GAL

Happy Friday everyone!

Here is my finished Noro Striped Scarf. Really mindless yet fun knit - which I really enjoyed. I still have no idea who I'm going to give it to, but I guess I'll make a gift drawer!

I'm currently working on the Anthropologie-inspired Capelet I am knitting for my friend's birthday on February 23.

Q1ChallengeFO - Dashing

This was a great little knit!
Now onto the matching headband. I'm planning on giving these to my daughter next Christmas :)
