Hello - My January Gift List

Cross posted at Sally Comes Unraveled and Year Long Gift-A-Long

I just joined the Year Long Gift-A-Long, which I need badly, considering I'm still working on Christmas 2007 gifts.

The idea is you set monthly gift knitting goals all year long. Hopefully I'll be prepared next Christmas.

Since January is almost over, I'm setting a very modest goal. Only one gift.

1. Gift Item: Hat - I have Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Astrakhan and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky in complimenting shades of yellow. They are begging to be in a hat together.

Recipient - I don't know. (I'm stockpiling.)

Occasion - Christmas

Deadline - December 24, 2008

Introduction, Jan. List, Q1 Challenge

I just joined, sounds like a fantastic a-long to be a part of! I've already had a great time looking at the FOs and gift ideas added so far! I'm a military spouse stationed overseas. The past three years, we haven't been home for Christmas, but this year, we will be...and that means no excuses for not giving any handmade gifts!

Since it's so late in January already, and since I have so many "gifts" for myself on the needles or on their way to the needles, I'm going to put just one item on my January gift-list:

1. Ooh La Loopy Hat (Interweave Holiday 06)/lil' cousin/Christmas/December 1

I'd also like to be counted in for the Quarterly Challenge.

HELP!!

I have some decrease questions that may be kind of simple, but I am still a beginning knitter. I am making my first hat. It is knit flat in K1 P1 ribbing and then seamed. I am to the decreasing part which i generally know how to do, but the ribbing is confusing me. I am supposed to continue in the rib pattern ( i was told to put stitch markers every 25 stitches) and decrease at the beginning of the row, before and after each stitch marker and at the end of the row. repeat this till i have 12 stitches. What I am confused about is which decrease to use and if it changes... do i knit the first two together, and then when I do that do i purl the next stitch to continue the ribbing or since my purl stitch was taken by the decrease do i knit. and then when i get to the stitch after the marker it is a stitch I am supposed to purl, so should i P2Tog if the stitch is a stitch that should be purled. These are probably really stupid questions... but I just want to make sure i get it right because this hat is my hubby's valentines day present.

Thanks in advance for any help you guys have.

January List Complete

Hi everyone, I’ve finished my items for January, these were the last two. This first one is a basket made from ribbon yarn, I was thinking they could be used for Easter baskets, or on a dressing table, or anywhere where there are little things that need a home.

This is the Rainbow Afghan, it didn’t take long to finish once all the ends on the squares were sewn in. I’m pleased with the colors and it’ll go into my Christmas gift box.

I’d better start thinking about my list for February now hadn’t I….

Sara's FO's for January, List for February

Hey all! I've already made a handful of gifts in January, but since I just got added yesterday I'm not sure if they count. But pretending this was a few weeks ago, here is what my January list would have looked like:

1. Ribbed Hat,  Dad, Jan. 10, FO
2. Fuzzy Feet, Dad, Jan. 10, FO
3. Branching Out Scarf, gift box for Holidays, end of February, half done
4. An Unoriginal Hat,  a guy, Christmas 2008, FO
5. Baby Kimono, future cousin, July, almost done!

And here is my list for February:

1. Finish Branching Out Scarf, gift box for Holidays, end of February, half done
2. 'A scarf for Ally', Grandma, Feb. 20,
3. Nintendo Cozy, Gina, March 16
4. Pea pod Baby Set, future Cousin, July (project for Feb. and March)
5. Jaywalker Socks, Mom, Christmas 2008

FO-Last one for January List!

Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee I am done January's list of projects! My last FO, the Fat Bottom Bag.

Not sure now that its done that would give it as a gift, not too happy with it. To me it kinda seems uneven, but its finished and worse comes to worse I can use it as a small project bag.

Now I still need to figure out which afghan pattern for my other Quarterly challegne, jsut can't devide, but will post this next week which one...I'll get opinion from the rest of the family!
Also gives me time to see what I want to do for February's list.

Everyone's projects look so great and your all doing a great job!! I don't always get to comment but wanted you all to know!

Oh my list...

January is almost over. I guess I'll put up in my February list.

1) Bunny Buddy Bag by annypurls. This is for Sarah. Dateline is 2nd week of March, in time for her birthday.

2) Moonlight Sonata Shawl by Shui Kuen Kozinski. This is for my mother. Dateline for this is the end of the year.

3) Brian's Sweater by Paton, heavily improvised. Dateline is end of the year and it's for my husband.

4) Woolly Blanket by myself. I'm working on this pattern myself, and I am making this blanket for myself. :D Slated to be done by the end of the year.

Diana's February list

My January has been regretfully devoid of knitting since I injured my wrist in a fall. Hopefully I can start again in a couple weeks, so here is my February list:

1) Skip Hat by Cathy Carron (from Hip Knit Hats) for Scott for Christmas.
2) Felted Clogs by Bev Galeskas - I want to knit a pair every other month for someone in the family.
3) Calla Lily Felted Bag by Cat Bordhi.  From The Knitters Book of Yarn. For Karen for birthday in August.
4) Calorimetry from Knitty for Karen for Christmas (maybe for Cindy also).
5) Little Sky Socks by Cat Bordhi from New Pathways for Sock Knitters   (may give to Harrison as soon as I finish).

One more week.....since I can't knit, I am trying to organize my stash.  I came across this box which I plan to use for my 2008 Christmas FO's.

Gift List

1. Fleece Artist Mittens - Sister, just because, Feb29, 2008
2. Babette - Sister, Christmas 2008
3. Monster - Bronson, Just because, Feb 5, 2008
4. Charade Socks -Lorraine, Mothers Day, May, 2008
5. Mermaid Socks - Mom, Mothers Day, May 2008

giorgi's january list

I'm starting late and I'd like to get at least one project done by the end of the month, so I'll make it a washcloth for the gift chest... recipient as yet unknown.

This *gal* is a great idea. I would not have begun to think about holiday gifting for months otherwise. I'll give some careful thought to February and the rest of the year and make a list.

LeAnn's Gift List

I just received my invitation to join this today. Even though January is almost over, here's my list:

1. Calorimetry / sister-in-law / Birthday / January 31
2. Nakiska / sister-in-law / Birthday / January 31
3. French Market Bag / co-worker / Birthday / May 31
4. Hazy Paves Scarf / mom / Christmas / December 15
5. Felted Clogs / Dad / Christmas / December 15

I finished the Calorimetry this morning, but I haven't marked this as an official FO. I may rip it back and make it a little narrower -- looked awfully wide when I tried it on.

I'll be casting on Nakiska tonight.

This KAL is such a great idea.

1st FO of the year and GAL

Happy Friday everyone!

Here is my finished Noro Striped Scarf. Really mindless yet fun knit - which I really enjoyed. I still have no idea who I'm going to give it to, but I guess I'll make a gift drawer!

I'm currently working on the Anthropologie-inspired Capelet I am knitting for my friend's birthday on February 23.

An FO and Revised Goals

Hi Everyone!

I knit a Grandmother's Favorite Dishcloth this week to kick off my Christmas present stash. It was a quick, mindless knit and I can see myself tossing off a few of these every so often between larger projects.

I'd like to revise my list as I just posted a few January goals earlier this month. I'm going to expand my list to goals for projects to complete before March 31.

1st Quarter Goals

Knit 3 pairs of baby booties (1 pair done)

Knit a baby kimono

Knit 5 dishcloths to give as Christmas presents (1 done)

Knit 2 pairs of slippers to give as Christmas presents

Have a great weekend! jsins

Another Finish!

The towel for my mother is finished!

My revised list:

  • Heet the Feet Slippers Ongoing till Feb 29
  • Waterloose Socks for DIL by Mar 6 (1 1/4 sock done)
  • Square Cake Inspired Bag for Eldest Daughter by March 28 (front panel almost done)
  • BMP Hat for Youngest Son by April 1
  • Wheelchair arm cover for Eldest Son by May 20

update and another FO

This GAL has been great for providing the inspiration and focus to get my projects organized and me working steadily to complete them. Here is an update on my January list:

1. Wonderful Wallaby for J - done
2. Hat for M - done

3. E's hat - this is the Odessa that I just finished. I thought that it was an easy but gratifying knit and would recommend it to anyone who is looking to make a hat.

4. M's scarf - January 31 - moving to February 15
I am making Branching Out from Knitty. It's taking me longer to feel comfortable with the pattern so I think I want to give it more time. Instead I will substitute
5. Hat for DH - moved from February 15 to January 31. I have just cast it on, so this will be my main WIP for now.
6. Crocheted guitar strap (which is progressing, but slowly) - still February 15.
After I finish the next hat, I will post February's list which will have my first 1Q challenge project in it.

So many ideas, so much fun!

Felted Clogs - FO #4

My fourth FO- Felted Clogs are finally dry! I know my mother will love them...

They're a bit 'wonky' but that will work out with wearing... these were fun, but took FOREVER to felt. I'm used to one cycle thru the wash to felt bags and such... these were in the machine/agitation for just over an hour! But... it worked!

So my Jan progress so far:

Syncopation bag for tbd - Jan 31 => DONE
Felted clogs for mom - Jan 31= DONE
Rib scarf for Lisa - Feb 2 => DONE
Baby Raglan for B.E. - Jan 16 => DONE
Baby blanket/bibs for baby girl (sewing) - Feb 15

Guess I need to get out the sewing machine!

I've loved seeing everyone's projects... very motivating!
