Sally's 2008 Wrap Up

Cross posted at Sally Comes Unraveled and Year Long Gift-A-Long.

This is my last post to the Year Long Gift-A-Long blog. I know they are moving exclusively to Ravelry, so I probably won't post these lists on my blog anymore. (But you will see the resulting FOs.)

You may have noticed my recent barrage of FOs on both my blog and the gift-a-long blog. I'm trying to catch up and wrap up 2008. Here's an update of the last list I posted.

Things to Finish

1. Chevron Scarf finished

  2. 2 baby socks for holiday advent calendar
That's it! We're expecting a baby so I'm not expecting much knitting to happen.

Carrie's March List

Here are my goals for March! Entries for the First Quarterly Challenge:
  • Shedir hat / SIL #2 / Christmas / December
  • Fetchings / friend's mom / Christmas / December
Other goals:
  • Baby hat / baby / baby due date / April 18th
  • Golf club cover / Mom / birthday / mid-March (for mailing)
I think I better stop there! There's more to do (will I have time to make a baby sweater as well?) but we'll have to see how it goes. I always overestimate!

Carrie's February Progress

Here was my list for February:
  • Two baby socks for the Baby Sock Advent Calendar / Family / Holiday season / December 1st
  • Bonnet and booties / friend's baby due in March / Baby due date / March ??
  • Golf club cover / Mom / Birthday / late March
(ultimately will be a full set but for this goal it's just one to determine if it fits properly!)
  • Felted Yoga Mat Bag / MIL / Birthday / late March
So far I'm running a consistent 50% done, 50% rollover rate! I'm not sure if that's good or bad! At least something is done, I suppose.

Let's see.. some FOs. Here are my advent calendar socks for this installment:

I'm not at all sure about them, to be honest. The lacey one is larger than the others, although that may not be a bad thing. But I also ran out of the green scraps I was using for it so the heel is ridiculously squashed. It's not to be worn so no big deal there, but I do think it looks sorta funny.

The other sock uses yet more stashed leftovers and I'm concerned that the green there is too dark. But maybe not. I think I'll have to make a few extra as the year goes on and just pick the best ones when it comes time to display!

On a more positive note, I did finish the baby gift. I'm so happy with it!

The bonnet is from Last Minute Knitted Gifts and the booties are Saartje's bootees. The booties used STR mediumweight in Bunny Foo Foo (pink and brown) and the bonnet used Cotton Ease in some brown color and pink Tahki Torino (superwash merino) for the ties. They are both super tiny so I hope they actually fit!

And... that would be all from my list! Doh! The golf club cover is up next for me, the yoga bag may in fact be shunted off to Christmas. Depends on how well I'm prioritizing my knitting in March! Lots of other things on the go as well and running out of time for an April baby due date.

Two other things I just wanted to mention. I checked my January list and seems I had some rollovers I managed to neglect to roll over! I did finish one of them: socks for my mom. These were originally going to be a birthday present but then she requested the golf club thingies, so I finished them in time for Valentine's Day instead! I'm very pleased:

This is the Sweetheart Socks pattern from Interweave Knits Holiday 2007. The yarn is Tofutsies, can't remember the colorway. Love the hearts:

So, that went over well and I suppose it counts as an FO! I don't know why I didn't write it down for the February list.

I also made something for Valentine's that was a spur of the moment thing. Not on the list but thought I'd share anyway! A kitty cat for my kiddo:

It's the Wee Wonderfuls pattern called Pointy Kitty. This is the second one I've made so this one only took one night, hurrah! My boy loves it :)

And I love the heart :)

I think I may try and be more sensible for my March list, but somehow, I doubt it will happen. Thanks for all the inspiration to keep it up!

Sash's February List!

Rightio - turns out I didn't finish anything at all on my January list, but that's OK! This is about AIMING for these goals, not punishing myself when I don't make it there!!

So from my January list...

Flowerbasket Shawl - Gran - ASAP - ROLLOVER

Hiking Socks - Dad - ASAP - One finished! ROLLOVER

Soaker - Baby Bosko - End Feb - REMOVED for now, too much going on!

Washcloth - Cousins - Dec 08 - ROLLOVER

So that leaves my February list looking like...
  1. Flowerbasket Shawl - Gran - for love - ASAP!
  2. Hiking Socks, toe up - Dad - Bleated Chrissie 07 - ASAP!
  3. Washcloth - cousins - Festivuss - Dec 08
To be truly realistic I'm keeping it even SHORTER than my January list! If I end up starting on the bubby soaker for a bit of variety, that's ok, but I'm not putting it up as a goal because I want to focus to be on the socks and shawl for now!

I've actually started on a spur-of-the-moment, instant gratification knit and have almost finished it! I was thinking of it for either August birthday or Chrissie this year, for my Sister in Law - perfect!! Just need to add buttons then will upload pictures of my first Year Long KAL FO! Hurrah!! :)

p.s. GREAT work everyone!! You all amaze and inspire me with your needles of FIRE!

Carrie's February List

I have some carryovers from January, but I have high hopes for this month!
  • Two baby socks for the Baby Sock Advent Calendar / Family / Holiday season / December 1st
  • Bonnet and booties / friend's baby due in March / Baby due date / March ?? (won't matter if it's too late but nice to have it there before the actual baby!)
(Saartje's booties and bonnet from either Last Minute Knitted Gifts or Hello Yarn, depending on yarn I decide to use!)
  • Golf club cover / Mom / Birthday / late March
(ultimately will be a full set but for this goal it's just one to determine if it fits properly!)
  • Felted Yoga Mat Bag / MIL / Birthday / late March
** I'll be glad when spring is past -- my entire family seem to have birthdays this time of year!

First Quarterly Challenge:
  • Shedir hat / SIL #2 / Christmas / December
  • Fetchings / friend's mom / Christmas / December

Hi all... well it's not the best sewing I've done, but not the worst either. Clearly I need to get used to my sewing machine again. But here is my last gift from my Jan list, a flannel baby blanket which is a fun 'block' pattern in girly colors backed with pink.

Introduction and my List!

G'day my fellow gift-knitters!
fibo thinking hat (5)
My name's Sasha, or knit nutt on my blog and ravelry, and I am most pleased to make your knitterly acquaintance!

I am super thrilled to get stuck in to this Gift Along, but only wonder if I can restrain myself from gifting as soon as I've finished rather than saving and squirreling away for the designated occassion!

In anycase, getting the gifts actually knitted up at ALL is the first step, right? And with that in mind, here is my current List!
  1. Flowerbasket Shawl / maternal Gran / for love! / ASAP(by end Feb)
  2. Toe-up socks / Dad / belated Chrissie 07! / ASAP!!
  3. Soaker / Baby Bosko / because he's lovely / end of Feb
  4. Dish-Face-cloth / my cousins / Chrissie / late December
I'm sticking with just the four items at the moment, seeing as two of those (1 & 2) are already on the needles and I want them knitted up and gifted away as soon as I can! But I'd definately like to get a start on the other two - it's helpful to have them on the lsit so I can aim high, right?

Good lcuk and speedy needles to us all! But of course, our needles can be relaxed and enjoyable as well as speedy, for we are early gift knitters - hurrah!! =D

Hello - My January Gift List

Cross posted at Sally Comes Unraveled and Year Long Gift-A-Long

I just joined the Year Long Gift-A-Long, which I need badly, considering I'm still working on Christmas 2007 gifts.

The idea is you set monthly gift knitting goals all year long. Hopefully I'll be prepared next Christmas.

Since January is almost over, I'm setting a very modest goal. Only one gift.

1. Gift Item: Hat - I have Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Astrakhan and Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Superchunky in complimenting shades of yellow. They are begging to be in a hat together.

Recipient - I don't know. (I'm stockpiling.)

Occasion - Christmas

Deadline - December 24, 2008

Update and change to list

Good thing Marce said we could change our lists... baby girl arrived early so that booted one of the other items to future Feb list. Here's my modifed list

1) Syncopation bag for tbd - Jan 31 => DONE
2) Felted clogs for mom - Jan 31
3) Rib scarf for Lisa - Feb 2 => DONE
4) Baby Raglan sweater for B.E. => Jan 16
5) Baby blanket/bibs for baby girl (sewing) - Feb 15

The clogs are half done (i.e. one)... and as everyone else always comments, it's HUGE. The pic is a little blurry (still learning my new camera). Hopefully will finish the other one this weekend because I can't wait to felt them!

Happy Knitting!
