January Goals

Hi folks,

I'm pleased to join you here and since my first goal for this year is to finish all the overdue gifts from this year, I can certainly use the support. So without further ado, my first five projects:

1. Finish the almost, but not quite done yet projects from last year (two scarves, felted backpack, water bottle cozies, and two teddy bears - all but one bear at least 50% done)
2. Cast on and work at least one ball of yarn for afghan from Knitting Nature for Dad - Christmas. [1/17 the yarn is in the mail]
3. Felted slippers for Dad - 3/13 (his birthday) per his request at Christmas.
   
4. Four washclothes for Mom - Mother's Day.
5. Start pair of socks for one of my cousins-in-law - Christgiving. [started 1/12-yea!]

No, Christgiving is not a typo. In our family we celebrate the extended family kickoff to Christmas on the Saturday after Thanksgiving.

Oh, and I accept the Q1 challenge. I'll need to add a second project next month for it.

Congratulations to (and I'm officially jealous of) those of you have already finished a project for next year already.

I have finished the hat portion of my baby shower gift, and I expect to finish that this weekend if I don't get sidetracked by the hat I'm working on in Malabrigo, lol! :) The sweater is finished w/ the knitted portion, and I'm getting buttons tomorrow, so I'll post a picture once those are attached.



I am accepting the Q1 Challenge. I've already cast on Dina's socks, and I hope to cast on the Rowan scarf soon, which I moved back because I don't really know WHO I'm knitting it for, so it can go in the Christmas pile. Let's see if I can make this happen!! ;) SO far everything I've finished this year has been for someone else, so I'm doing pretty well. :)

Advent calendar has been pushed back to be a 2nd half of the year project, because I'm going for the 1st quarter challenge. Every year I have a few female relatives that I have NO IDEA what to get them for Christmas. Well, this year they are getting circular scrubbies and square dishcloths. 3 of each for each person. For 6 people. So thats 18 scrubbies and 18 dishcloths. I aim to have half finished by Kahlan's DDay, thus fulfilling the challenge, and the other half finished by June.

Two down, two to go

I finished my second project of the month - a pair of Dashing fingerless mitts. They're a holiday '08 gift for a friend. Yay! It feels great to have something already wrapped up, so to speak.



I love the idea behind the first quarterly challenge, Marce! Knitting something each month for giving later in the year will help get us all off to a great start.



It's been great seeing everyone's projects as they are posted and it is keeping me motivated. Next up for me is making a partner for a lonely sock. I've also added to my monthly goals to quilt six circles on the Double Wedding Ring quilt I've been making forever.




It's been marked and basted for a year and a half. I've just been too chicken to attempt the free motion quilting for fear I'll ruin it. But this is the year I'm finally going to finish it for my daughter's bedroom, even if the quilting isn't perfect. My goal is to have it on her bed on Christmas morning.

The garter rib socks that are a gift for ME ME ME ;) have been converted to Monkeys for ME ME ME and I just started the leg on sock 1.

the viewscreen on my digi is still broken and might forever be, so not the greatest pics, but you get the idea. didn't do a good job of picking up the pattern details, but I LOVE LOVE LOVE them and i LOVE LOVE LOVE cherry tree hill yarn!!!!!

Finally made a chart

I created a chart in excel to keep track of my promises and completions.  So far this month I have done four swiffer covers, three dishrags, the calorimetry and a zig zag scarf (free pattern from Ram Wool site).  I also started an afghan for DH's chair but have no set deadline for this.  A friend has asked for a Pierrot doll but I am saving that for February.  

This blog is really helping me.  I hope I stick with it.

My first FO

Here's a green Syncopation Bag... I loved this pattern and definitely have more in my future (have the yarn already). This is for my gift drawer... and done well ahead of my 1/31 deadline!

This is such a fabulous idea.. and a great way for me to organize my thoughts for each month.

Since I'm a bit behind in starting I have just 3 items on this months gift list:

My sister's birthday (Jan 22nd, but we'll see her the following week) - Washcloths (4)
My friend Missy's birthday (Jan 4th, but will see her the 18th)- Odessa
My Friend Molly's birthday (Jan 30th) - Odessa

I am also going to join the Quarterly Challenge. The objects I plan to knit this quarter are:

1. 1/4 of the baby socks for the Baby Sock Advent Calender (this is a gift to myself)
2. Dishcloth Afghan for my daughter

I'm already knitting two Christmas presents this month - the Ribbed Keyhole Scarf, and a coffee cozy also. I intend to knit another cozy next month, and another scarf - both for Christmas again. If I don't try to knit at least 1 Christmas present a month, I'll never be finished in time! (I wasn't for 2007!)

Accepting the Quarterly Challenge

A necessary knit

Secretly I had this on my knit list for early February, but for some strange reason I lost my wrist warmers. I had to knit a new pair, though I usually wear one of them - right hand only. (that is because I am having Guyon Tunnel Syndrome, and the warmth of the wrist warmer usually takes away the pain.) The yarn was a gift - as thank you for a test knit from Denise and the design is my own.

Wooohoo FO Hats 1 & 2

So, I had 3 baby hats to finish, 1 for a baby due in February, and 2 for a set of twins due in March.
I've now finished the bigger one for the February boy, and one of the smaller ones for the twins.
*eta* My boyfriend will be undergoing some surgery on Friday - while I'm nervous, I'm trying to look at the bright side... lots of time to knit. Hoping to finish my friend's scarf still.

Hi everyone, Cindy here! I'm glad to be joining this Gift-A-Long...thanks to Marce for organizing this! A little bit about me: I live in NYC, work as a research coordinator, and am working towards my career goal of becoming a physician assistant. I'm also the dyer behind Cherry Blossom Fibers. I loooove to craft, and am always looking for new things to try. I've been knitting for about 2 years. With all my crafts, I have a little bit of A.D.D. mixed with just wanting to try too many projects, so hopefully you all can help keep me motivated to stick to my knitting/gift goals!

List Change

I've had to change my list for January. My grandson, who was to be the recipient of the Jolly Roger sweater, suddenly was moved from the desert to Hawaii. Although there might be a few occasions he could wear the sweater, a cotton tank top is far more likely to get used!

January Goal

Finish 3 sheep from the Jean Greenhowe Christmas Special pattern for Christmas gifts and to finish one strip on my Holiday Stamp afghan, also for Christmas. Another one bites the dust...

So I was right when I predicted I would finish the fuzzy well before my planned deadline. Mostly because I haven't been able to work on my headband at all, due to lack of proper yarn. *sigh*

Payday needs to hurry so I can get more yarn. :P I need a skein of something soft and bulky, 1 skein of Simply Soft in Black, and 2-3 skeins Simply Soft in Yellow.

And I need to find a simple project to go with the 2nd skein of Fuzzy. Because it's hell to work with.

January could be rough!

Ugh! When patterns are wrong!

I am so mad right now! I had planned to have the Wave Scarf done for January 6th for my sister as a La Befana gift. Unfortuntely that did not happen. Why you ask.... well that's a very good question! I don't have enough yarn!!

I pattern called for 6 hanks of Cadena yarn. BULL-JINKIES!!

I was on skein 3 last Friday and trucking along nicely. The pattern is nice and fairly easy. A 24 stitch cable is a little challenging, but you get the hang of it and it's every 12th row, so not too bad. But like I said, I was on 3rd skein and barely had 20" on the scarf!! The scarf is suppose to be 71" long!

PANIC!!!

I rush over to my computer *stepping on the poor cat's tail - who insists on getting in the way everytime I walk somewhere in my house* boot up my computer and start searching Ravelry. What do I find?? NO ONE who used the recommended yarn make that scarf with the required number of skeins. Others used between 8 to 10 skeins. *sigh*

I went over the Knit Picks and ordered 4 more skeins and I'm praying that the skein colors will match - or that they'll be close enough not to notice. So, this project is on hold till the new yarn comes in.

What have I learned.... check Ravelry before starting any more projects!

First FO for January

I finished the scarf for my friend that I needed to get done by the 9th (just in the knick of time.) I still only have 1/3 of the baby blanket done. But I am hoping to get another panel done this weekend. With the schedule I have, I should get it done early! YAY, no deadline stress. I am also going to cast on the doggy sweater for my grandma's dog.

A first FO

I have finished the first hat on my list and have now started working on the second. For this hat, I used Kim's hat pattern from Last Minute Knitted gifts and some yarn that I bought years ago to teach my son to knit. I was surprised by how nicely it turned out.

I am now working on a hat for my friend, in Frog Tree pima cotton. I initially wanted to try a Brioche stitch hat but that seemed too complicated to learn right now so have decided to do an Odessa hat without beads in 2 colors, we'll see how it turns out.

I am up to the hood on my Wonderful Wallaby and so I expect to finish it this weekend.

This KAL has been very helpful in keeping me going and it has been such fun to see other people's projects unfold.

Another January FO

I finished another gift on my January list...the pocketbook slippers. I am not a fan of acrylic and I never thought I would be but...this yarn is wonderful. It's called "I Love This Yarn!" and as far as I can tell, it's made by Hobby Lobby. This color is Naturals Stripe. It was wonderful to knit with and so soft. This is how the slippers look when finished...you can see where the name comes from.
This is a terrible photo but this is how they look on the feet. The striping wasn't as pretty or consistent as I would have liked but I'm pleased with them. Now, one more item and I am finished with my January list. YAY!

2nd FO Gift!

I managed to finish my 2nd giftie FO on the 5th, as scheduled! :) This brings my total this month to two!






I also finished one of the parts of the baby shower gift. I didn't KNOW this was going to be part of the gift until it was finished, though.



How cute is that? I'm currently working on the baby cardi. I'm going to visit the stash for the bib yarn, and the hat and booties will be made out of the same yarn as the cardi, then I'm done with January's gifts! :)

After weaving in the ends, I decided to wait until after baby is born to attach the ribbon ties. Because I'm not sure how much of a hassle it would be to tie them behind her. It would be cute, sure... but probably a pain.

With that out of the way, I have been making a good bit of progress on both the Fuzzy Sweater and the Pinwheel Blanket. Both will be finished before my original goal dates I believe. The fingerless gloves for me however, will most likely be pushed back to Feb as I have to get new needles for them, and it's just not in the budget right now.

All in all, nesting is proving interesting. I just have this overwhelming urge to make baby clothes...

FO: 2 by 4 hat

In a surprise move, I finished one of my gifts this week. I present you with my improvised 2 by 4 hat:



This is a simple four by two rib (as the name suggests). I knit for about 6.5" and then decreased every row, first eliminating every other knit rib section, then the purls, then the last knit section. This will go to Ron next month for his birthday.

My Plans for Jan (uary)

Okay, time to commit to some projects for January. I have already knitted a pair of socks for my daughter, finished a pair for my husband the Spunk and have started a pair of Monkey socks for me! However, my gift knitting for January will be:

1. Fingerless mitts for my friend (due before our Winter)
2. Finish a bunny for my son (it's crochet, but it has to be done!)
3. A pair of Hedera for myself (before I go back to work in February)
4. A washcloth for my MIL2 (due 29 January for her birthday)

It's okay for me to make socks for myself this month, as I have made that many socks for others recently, I deserve a couple of gifts!

None of these projects will require yarn purchasing, so to motivate myself I will buy sock yarn when these are all done! That should get me going.

FO and WIP from January List

This was my list for January:
January:
8th: Sister's birthday - washcloths and scrubbies to make gift basket with soaps.
17th: Brother-in-laws birthday - scarf - he never has something warm on his neck!

Below is my sister's birthday gift. I did make the purple/yellow petal dishcloth and the dark scrubbie this past week, but the other ones were from my stash cloths. All were made from Sugar n' Cream. So, I count this as an FO! We had her birthday party last night, and she loved them!

I decided to alter my list for my brother-in-law and make a Helmet Liner instead. He works in construction, and has been outside in some bitter weather. This will work under his hard hat, too. Not much to see yet, but here is the WIP OTN. I'm using NH Knitting Mama Yarn - a soft merino alpaca blend in worsted weight that I saved out for myself to make this project.

Update on January List

Here is my work in progress on the baby blanket. This is only a third of it. I'll make two more panels and and then sew them together. The nursery is green and yellow. I just added the blue and purple to make it a little more colorful. It is a HIGHLY modified version of a lion brand free pattern. I changed almost everything, but I like it alot so far. I can't wait to see how it will look all together. I am a little nervous because I am supposed to whip stitch the panels together and I have never done that. But we knitters are fearless right.... so I'll figure it out, it doesn't look that hard (I hope it isn't anyway)

I have more than three fourths of the scarf that needs to be done by the 9th completed. I will hopefully be able to post that it is an FO tomorrow and post a pic. Once I get that finished i'll cast on the doggie sweater I think. Hope everyone is doing well on their goals. This gift a long is really helping me stay on track. I see everyone's FOs and it keeps me motivated to keep going.

My first FO of the year: the one-piece baby kimono from Mason Dixon Knitting. Cute AND best of all, I used up an almost full skein of Lion Brand Cotton Ease leftover from a bolero I knit for my youngest daughter.

Hello everyone, Dreamsherl here. I'm happy to be a part of the year long gift a long. I have a few items that I have to complete before January ends. I have a shower gift that I'm send to a cousin in Augusta GA. The gift is a hat and sweater set. The hat is complete and the sweater is almost complete. The sweater body is complete (it is knit in one piece) and I'm now starting the arms and have to do the corrugated ribbing around the neck edge and front plakets. I'm also making a shrug for my six year old cousin so that she won't feel left out of all of the fun. The baby is due January 21st.

The sweater is being made with Plymouth Encore.

The shrug is being made with Plymouth Yarn's Italian Collection Athena.

I have an update! Actually, I should have posted January 1st, but things were busy.



For all intensive purposes, I am done with my January knitting! lol. I finished Coronet on January 1st. All I have left to do is knit the toe on my Strawberry Lime socks, but in the interest of not screwing it up and having to rip the whole thing out (because I just know that would happen), I am putting it down in favor of going to bed... but in the morning? Finished socks. I was just invited to a baby shower, so now I'm going to have to knit some baby gifts. Ideally, I'd like to knit a little layette set, but I'd settle for some bibs out of the Mason-Dixon Knitting book, or maybe some burp cloths and washcloths.

Yeah! I finished my January Dishcloths

I finished my Jan d/c....'luv bug' and started a scarf, but don't think my mom's going to like it. The Seafoam Stitch from 'knittingonthenet.com'. I found the alphabet patterns on www.knittingknonsense.com which are dishcloths. I think I'll like knitting these cause I bought myself a birthday purse, large, to carry my knitting. I started my Feb d/c coffee cup from 'knittingmemories.blogspot.com'. Got to go, the kids made dinner. Life today is good.

YAY an FO!

I finished a scarf for my friend, which was meant to be a Christmas present.
I just realized, while I talked about why I was excited about the Giftalong (baby count now up to 11), I never set my goals for January.
Don't think is fair to include something I've just finished... so:
1. Thomas' scarf. I'm using a pattern I got off a ball band for another kind of yarn, it makes it diagonal...
2. At least one baby hat. 1 baby boy due in February and 2 in March, so getting a head start is a GOOD idea.
3. Start on one baby blanket. Going to do blankets for my closer friends, and hats for others. 1 closer friend's baby is due in July, the other in August - so I want to go ahead and get started on one.

I think that's enough for January, since that doesn't include things I want to knit for myself etc :)

January Gift List

I absolutely love this idea! I was so stressed getting everything finished for Christmas gifts this year that I don't want the same thing to happen in 2008. I'm going to list all the gifts I need to knit as I think of them, so these deadlines will be further down in 2008.

1. Broad Street Mittens/Anna/Christmas 2007/January 31st
   My girlfriend knows I'm working on something for her. She's a fellow knitter and told me not to stress over her gift :-) Wasn't that nice of her! I've got one mitten almost finished.
   
2. Twining Vine Baby Blanket/Nesli/Before birth of niece/March 17th
   My sister picked out this baby blanket so I must finish it before baby is born! I started it but have only knit up about a foot. Its knit in 4 pieces so it will take a while.
   
3. Helmet Liner/Dad/Christmas 2008/March 31st
   I meant to make this for my dad this year but ran out of time. He likes to go fishing when its cold so I thought this would help keep him warm :-) I already have the yarn for this.
   
4. Elijah/Gina/New Baby Arrival/ASAP
   My friend has either just had her baby or is just about to, and this is my FAVORITE baby thing to knit. I just bought the yarn for this one today!

That's enough for now! I think some of these will roll over into next month, but that's ok :-)

January Gift List

This gift list is a WIP in itself, but wanted to get it posted. :)

1) Fiber Trends Felt Clogs, Women's Large (Men's small actually)/Don/Christmas. (Obviously late, but I haven't seen them since the holidays anyway so not late yet really! teehee) 40% completed. I am going to post a deadline on this of January 11, but that could change. Definitely this month. Berroco Ultra Alpaca, potting soil and fern.

2) Fiber Trends Felt Clogs, Women's Medium/Anne Marie (Don's wife)/Christmas. These are actually 98% done, used them for my class, but need to sew the seams on clog 2. Malabrigo and Cascade 220.

3) Prayer shawl for Rosemary for death in family, deadline ASAP. This is an ongoing project due to the holidays. It's about 30% done. KP's Suri Dream Handpaints.

4) Socks for ME because I deserve it. :) Cherry Tree Hill in Peacock, magic loop, toe-up, garter rib. Deadline: I'm going to put the 30th, but would like them done sooner and while it's still chilly! :)

5) Kenobi Jacket, ME, because I need it. Berroco Ultra Alpaca in Pea Soup Mix. Deadline: While it's still cold! Have to finish the fronts and 1-1/2 sleeves.

Hi my name is Jennifer. I think the Gift-a-long is a great idea. I want to get a head start on Christmas this year and think this is a great way to do so.

I'm planning a break between the baby sets and the afghan squares to knit myself socks when I take the train to Chicago for the baby shower....unless I have to get desperate and use my train time to finish the baby stuff. ;)

edit: Edited to change the Hat & socks set from the Shadow Stripes set to the two separate hat & socks patterns, which worked better for the yarn I have. Also updated finished projects.

I'll post FO photos after the baby stuff is gifted, because the recepient is on my Flickr friend list. Gotta keep the surprise! :)

quick intro and January goals

Hello! I'm Joslyn, SAHM of 2 young children. I'm on ravelry as jayamaree!

I have a super long list of things I want to make this year for xmas. I'm really trying to work through my stash and spend less money on xmas.

For this month I want to finish the cable throw for the living room (this is ME project, although if I like how it comes out I can see doing another for a gift). This will probably take me until the end of the month. If I do get it done, and I don't feel like my hands are going to fall off I'll work on something from my massive list of stuff I'd like to get done for next xmas.

So that is my goal for the month, a gift to me! I hope that's okay!

Sorry I am a day late putting up my January list. I just got home from vacation in North Carolina. Here are my January projects:

• baby blanket for my soon-to -be born niece or nephew
• sweater for my grandma's dog (was supposed to be a Christmas present but I miss judged the size and am starting over)
• another scarf (also was supposed to be a Christmas present but I got behind)

I think that is all for January. I have made progress on the baby blanket already while on vacation, I'll post some photos tomorrow.

2 FO's Plus 1

Hello to everyone,

Sure hope everyone had a great New Year! I found myself making the Cupcake Bag for my granddaughter on New Years Eve while waiting to leave to go to the Bowl Bash. I put the finishing beads on it this morning..whatcha all think?
Next time I will crochet the beads in, they were kinda an after thought...lol
I also finished a Market Bag which is 1 of three wanting to make. (2 are for a friend who sent the cotton as she doesn't crochet) Which actually I do have 1 of hers finished, just no pic of it, but here is the one I finished up.
These bags really hold alot and they do make nice gifts. I hope to get one made in my colors for myself as I gave the last one away...make good bags to carry all the packages to the post office too. My son's girlfirend uses one to carry all her yarns and stuff, boy does she have it stuffed, looks like a barrel bag instead..lol
Don't know if this next pic will count but its something I made up quick for a friend who let me pattern test it.

Only took 1 hour and 45 minutes and that was with interuptions..doggies you know :) Its made with 1 skein of SWS to show its striping and I had alittle left over. She's calling it "one ball SWS Eyelet Beanie". Makes a great quick hat to make up for chairty so I'm thinking I will be adding a few of these to my monthly list for when I help out at WarmUpWinc. They do cover the whole head and aren't tight.
Because I know crochet is faster to do I will be making scarves and hats too so they will be ready for gifts next December. Mostly for family up more North..lol I do have one in the making thats called Pocket Scarf.
I really love the idea of this swap and you all have so many nice gifts picked out, I wish I knew how to knit better, honestly, it takes me about 3 days to make a dishcloth with a little stabbing here and there, looks like I'm trying to sword fight..lol, I would hate to see how long it takes to do something a little bigger..lol I know I can't wait to see all your FO's. Knit/Crochet/Sew on!!

Just Joined

Joined yesterday but I'm just now getting around to posting here. Since I moved last year (September), I didn't get as much done as I thought I would. So this group is going to be a good thing. I really need to sit down and get a list together and then I'll post it here.

Itty Bitty January Goal

Since I tend to put too much on my plate, and I'm playing catch-up from 2007, I'm setting an itty bitty January goal.

I'll be making the Butterfly Hat by Jan. 31 for Sonja to thank her for being an invaluable virtual assistant. I really wanted to have it to her for Christmas, but oh well. Instead of looking at it as a late Christmas '07 gift, I'll consider it an early Christmas '08 gift.

January Goals From A Fibernut!

After pondering my ever growing gift list (and everyone elses!) I've decided to start small so I've chosen three goals for January.

1. 1 Crocheted Snowflake A Week - total of 4
2. 1 Knit 12" square a month - for DS #3's afghan
3. Lady Eleanor Entrelac Stole - started a month ago for myself!

FINISHING TIPS: A recurring feature...

I'm so pleased with the momentum of this blog already. You've shown a fantastic level of enthusiasm and I know we'll build on that throughout the year.

I'm going to start a recurring post here to help keep us motivated. Every once in a while I'll post little tidbits that will help with finishing things in less time (or what will seem like less time) and with less stress. Hopefully you'll find something here that makes the difference for you between finishing and not finishing something wonderful to give.

Scarf knitting? Knit 2 at once!
Using straight or circular needles you can knit 2 scarves at one time. Change up the pattern on each to keep yourself really interested, and by the time you're done, you'll have TWO finished items out of the way. Scarves can seem to go on and on forever, but much like knitting 2 socks at once, when you're done, you've really finished something useful in what will seem like much less time!

Trade crafts with a friend.
If you're a super seamstress and you have a friend who knits like nobody's business - trade labor and get some variety in your gifting. Take some time to assess the amount of effort for each type of item (one set of fabric place mats = 2 sets of felted coasters, etc). This way, you still get the pleasure of giving handmade, but you change up the game just a little and keep it interesting.

Knit from your stash.
This is a "two birds, one stone" philosophy that I think many of you are following already. By checking your stash first before buying new yarn, fabric, or thread you may find some hidden gems, and eventually reduce that "other" stress we have when our hobbies get the best of us. If you don't find something in there that is just right for the gift occasion...switch it up and get started on something for you!

Renee's January List

What a wonderful idea for a knit-a-long!  I know I was up until the wee small hours finishing gifts in 2007 and I don't want to do it again in 2008. 

Here's my January list.  I am going to Atlanta in a few weeks and I'll be exchanging Christmas gifts with extended family then.

1. Hat and scarf set/ Great Aunt Anita/ 90th Birthday-late Christmas gift/January 20th.  I started the Gretel hat yesterday and I hope to find a similar scarf pattern to go with it.  Any ideas?

2. Hat and scarf set/ Grandpa Bernard/ late Christmas gift/ January 20th.  Grandpa is Aunt Anita's little brother.  They still have sibling rivalry so what I do for one I have to do for the other.  The scarf is a simple striped garter stitch scarf and the hat is the 11th Hour Hat.  I just have to weave the ends in on the scarf and start the hat.

3.  Placemat set / Auntie Debbie/ late Christmas gift/ January 20th.  The pattern is out of Simple Gifts to Stitch.

New Year's Day - Organizing!

I haven't done any knitting (yet) today. My husband gave me a wonderful gift - he refinished an old armoire that I'm using to store yarn, so I have been having fun putting all my stash away. It's so nice to be able to open the doors and see all my yarn. It's like having my own little yarn store!

Since my gift plans include some sewing projects, I've also been organizing my sewing area. It's been a while since I've done any sewing, so I've been pulling what I think I'll be needing out from storage and putting it neatly within reach, but out of sight. I'm going to clean and oil my machine, too.

I also have to add one more knitting project to my January list - a baby hat or booties for a friend who just had her fifth baby.

Suzie - I just finished one of Kim's Hats - the one with the earflaps. I love it - and it's for me.

1. Wonderful Wallaby for J - date to be done - January 15.
I am about 2/3s of the way done with this and hope to be done soon so that he can wear it through the winter
2. M's hat - January 20
This is a gift that a family won in the school auction and I should be able to get it done quickly. I am planning on using the Kim's hats pattern from Last Minute Knitted Gifts.
3. E's hat - January 20
It's her birthday! I am trying a brioche hat for the first time, so I hope that it is not too difficult
4. Michelle's scarf - January 31
This is an overdue birthday gift. She picked Branching Out from Knitty. I need to get the yarn and I am on my way
5. Crocheted guitar strap - February 15
I am also more that halfway through this but I have not crocheted for a while and there will be some sewing involved so I am being somewhat pessimistic about this.
6. DH hat - Feb. 15
I am planning on using the Kim's hats pattern again but with ear flaps this time. Poor DH - he gets pushed to back of the pile because I know that he will be patient.

Yay! I've managed to finish something already!

This is a scarf for my poorly Dad who's birthday it is this week. He was ill with a heavy cold over Christmas so hopefully this will cheer him up:


The yarn is Garnstudio Eskimo and using 8mm needles I cast on 16 stitches and then knitted double moss stitch until the yarn ran out. I used 2 and 1/2 balls and got a scarf 42 inches long.

So, here is my list for January...rather short on the gift giving, but I'll figure out more as the year goes along. This month is about finishing.

It's officially January, so here's my list for this month:

• Monkey socks / Mom / Mom's birthday / March

• 2 socks for 2008 holiday advent calendar / December
  

I want to use this idea of spacing out gift knitting throughout the year to enable me to do some holiday decoration knitting as well! I really want to do one of those sock advent calendars so I figure 2 a month will get me there :)

ETA: Sock Advent Calendar information! I got the idea from Anny Purls who got the idea from Martha Stewart via Whip Up!



Isn't it adorable? I think I'm going to do something different for the numbers, but I love the idea! I was thinking about having the socks hang from a banner or similar that would have the numbers on them. Also, no second sock syndrome if you don't care about making pairs :)
